Misty Meadows Logobanner

"Misty Meadows was planned in the 1970s by a retired Oconomowoc farmer and real estate developer. Working together they created one of the first subdivisions in Waukesha County designed as a planned unit development."

Eventually, Leroy Gennerman, Donald Christiansen, Lawrence Rollefson, Kenneth Bohen and Gerhard Mueller, all graduates of Oconomowoc High School, formed a development company called the Five O's, in reference to the five O's in the name Oconomowoc.

Their plan included setting aside land for common areas and organizing a homeowners association to manage and pay for the upkeep of the development. Articles of Incorporation and By-laws were formed and filed with the County of Waukesha on April 17, 1972. Farm Land located east of County Highway P, south of Lake Drive and west of Nelson Road was subdivided into one acre lots. Large tracks of green space were set aside to accommodate tennis courts, playground equipment and areas to play baseball and other outdoor activities. Two subdivisions were developed and are currently known as Misty Meadows Homes Association, Inc.* and Misty Meadows North. Each subdivision has its own unique association, group of directors and Articles of Incorporation and By-laws.

Three existing ponds located within the subdivision are natural and manmade. The largest of the ponds is natural and is the head of Rosenow Creek and eventually makes its way to Lac La Belle. The size and position of lots was arranged to preserve existing woods, wetlands and prairies, leaving as much open space as possible for the shared use of homeowners. Trees and other planting were incorporated throughout the development.

Misty Meadows was featured in a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article as the subdivision of the week and was called something that was ahead of its time. Misty Meadows was one of first Subdivisions to incorporate shared green space. The park like common areas are far larger than the normal subdivisions built today. Misty Meadows is truly a unique and and amazing place to call home. Article was written in 2004.

Most of the homes in Misty Meadows are ranches with several duplexes located along Surrey Drive. Located in the Town of Oconomowoc, Misty Meadows is serviced by the Okauchee Fire Department and is within the Oconomowoc school district.
